Hop into a pickup game!
One of the most dynamic programs at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse is pickup basketball. Every day of the week until midnight. (Call ahead Closing time always subject to change depending on the crowd) people of all ages, sexes and races are “getting in the game” at our facilities in Shelby Township and Detroit. Each year, the Fieldhouse plays host to almost 100,000 pickup basketball visits. Players pay $10-11 to play as long as the space is available…a terrific entertainment value. Because the types of games vary so radically in age and skill level, pickup players typically find out when and where a “run” to their liking is going on and then that game grows in reputation amongst players of comparable skill levels. In Detroit, Fred Hatcher can advise newcomers when the right game for the skill level is being played. At the Fieldhouse in Shelby Township, Jen Hopp has her finger on the pulse of certain “runs.” It is not unusual to see current and former NBA players involved in a pickup game at the Fieldhouse.
