HIGH ROPES COURSE!

The Low Down on High Ropes
The High Ropes
Course was installed by High Ropes Incorporated, the leading
ropes installer in the United States, which is located right
her in MIchigan. Best known for residing outdoors, ropes
courses consist of a series of obstacles between platforms
set at 15 and 30 foot heights. Each participant is harnessed
and attached to a very sturdy ball bearing, which is then
secured to the track by an attendant. High Ropes Courses
are usually found at camps to help build team comradery.
Various sports teams, Boy Scout Packs, Girl Scout Troops
and corporate groups have all used High Ropes to aid in
team development, unity, problem solving and confidence.
Joe Dumars saw the High Ropes Course for dual purposes.
He wanted to give area groups and companies an opporunity
to have a unique teambuilding
activity in addition to other traditional teambuilding programs
currently in existance at the Fieldhouse. In addition, he
wanted to give the everyday patron a new and exciting individual
challenge. "My hope for the Fieldhouse has always been
to remain a destination for people of all ages to come and
enjoy themselves," Joe said. "Whatever I need
to do to keep customers coming back, I'll do it!"
Each level and specific obstacle offer a different challenge
for everyone. Before a participant can advance to the next
level of High Ropes Course, all challenges on the lower
level must be done consecutively and completely. Once the
participant has proven they are ready, they will receive
an Achievement Card. They may then advance at that time
or come back on another day with the card to conquer the
Advanced Level.

A wood plank ladder is stretched

A series of swings
are hanging from a pole above. The participant must
step from one swing to another to get across. |

ADVANCED LEVEL CHALLENGES
|
|
Tension
Traverse: A cord
is suspended between platforms with two ropes running
from end to end. One rope runs top to bottom and the
other rope runs bottom to top. As you make your way
across, the ropes switch heights in the center of the
obstacle making it difficult to keep your balance. |
|
|
Cargo
Net: A large
cargo net runs across tow platforms. Each participant
must climb through the net to get to the other side.
This challenge definitely requires all body strength. |
|
|
Swinging
Beam: From the
ground, it looks like a simple balance beam with ropes
to aid you along on the side of the beam. Actually,
once you step onto the beam and it begins to sway back
and forth, you realize very quickly it is not as easy
as it seems. |
|
|
Charlie
Chaplin: Two
cords are strung from one platform to another. Without
anything to hang on to, the participant must angle their
feet outwards to maintain balance as they make their
way across. |
