"FUN is the name of the game!"
Whirlyball is played with ten players, five to a team. Each player rides a Whirlybug (electric powered bumper car) and carries a scoop, with which he or she can pass the ball to teammates and shoot at the goal, a circular target above the two opposite ends of the court. A score in Whirlyball is called a "Whirlic". Players are not allowed to leave their cars or to touch the ball with their hands. Other than that, almost anything is allowed, within certain bounds of safety.
Whirlyball is played on a 80' x 50' court. While Whirlybugs only move at 3-5 MPH, the action is fast paced and downright addictive. Unlike traditional bumper cars, the Whirlybugs allow for quick turns and movement in different directions.
Games are generally played with a running clock set to 10 or 15 minutes. The winning team is the one with the most points, resulting from Whirlics or scores, or from penalty points.
While participants do not need to be athletes to compete, a competative spirit and drive to win fuels the play. Speed.. strength.. agility... none of it will help you here. Tall or short, male or female, gifted athlete or couch potato, Whirlyball is the great equalizer and can be enjoyed by anyone over 12 years old and 4'6". The unique nature of the sport and addictive fun create a level playing field and make the sport thrilling for everyone.
