Joe Dumars? Fieldhouse and Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League Announce Partnership in Roller Hocke |
|
In early February, the roller hockey program at Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse, previously known as the MRHA, announced that they have teamed up with the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey Association to form the Little Caesars Roller Hockey League at Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse. Little Caesars runs the largest ice hockey program in Michigan and one of the best known programs in North America. Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse has long been known as home of the largest and best for roller hockey program in the country with over 300 teams a season playing in their leagues and hosting the most well attended regional and national roller hockey tournaments. "By working together we are hoping to bridge the gap between ice hockey and roller hockey. Our goal is to provide both kids and adults alike an opportunity to play a sport that they love, whether it be ice or roller." exclaims Matt Koleski, Director of Hockey Operations for the newly formed Little Caesars Roller Hockey Association at the Fieldhouse. "If ice hockey is not an option because of financial or time constraints then there is a great alternative for these players in roller hockey. If you talk to anyone out there that has played both ice and roller at any level they will attest that roller and ice compliment one another. If a player is able to do both at the same time his/her puckhandling and offensive skills will improve dramatically throughout the season" added Koleski. Without offsides, roller hockey allows a measure of creativity not always found in ice hockey. Additionally, the game is played 4 on 4 allowing for increased puck handling, "ice time" and scoring chances.
